The use and regulation of credit ratings in the European Union
The round-table “The use and regulation of credit ratings in the European Union” was jointly organized by Rating-Agentur Expert RA and the Association of the Banks of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent on the 6th of November 2018. The purpose of the round-table was to familiarize participants of the banking sector of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the current features of the regulation of credit ratings and credit rating agencies in the European Union, as well as with the ways of using such credit ratings. Also, within the framework of the event, the methodological approaches of Rating-Agentur Expert RA GmbH to assess the creditworthiness of banks and the current credit risk assessment of Uzbekistan were introduced.
The round-table was attended by the representatives of more than 10 Uzbek banks, representatives of Asian development bank and KfW bank in Tashkent, as well as by representatives of the Association of the Banks of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, member of executive committee of International Chamber of Commerce Banking Commission – Vincent O’Brien – participated in this round table.
The event was opened by the welcoming speech from the President of the International Group of Rating Agencies RAEX Dmitry Grishankov.
Representative of Rating-Agentur Expert RA GmbH Vladimir Gorchakov made a detailed presentation on the use and regulation of credit ratings in the European Union. In particular, he spoke about the key steps towards reforming the rating industry in the EU, the current industry regulatory framework and specifics of using credit ratings in regulated and unregulated areas. At the end of the presentation, the current methodology of assigning credit ratings to banks as well as the Agency's assessment of the key risks of the Republic of Uzbekistan were introduced.
A small discussion about the use of credit ratings, as well as about the banking sector risks of Uzbekistan, took place at the end of the event.
