RAEX Rating Agency has updated its ESG ranking of companies based on a new methodology. The list of companies was supplemented with 20 new participants, with 100 companies from Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
Among the 20 new companies in the ranking, we can mention Sberbank, which took the 3rd place, thanks to the developed management practices, transparency of environmental reporting and high level of social security of employees. Severstal moved up to 8th position due to, among other things, its effective management of health and safety risks, human rights and engagement with local communities. ROSATOM moved from 42nd place to 14th, with the company's practices highlighted including a high degree of data disclosure in the area of business ethics, supplier involvement in ESG development and quality work in risk management. PhosAgro remains in first place in the ranking, with Norilsk Nickel in second place.
The industry structure of the ranking has expanded this year with the addition of a new industry - Insurance. So far, two companies represent the industry: Ak Bars Insurance and Renaissance Insurance Group. The leading positions in the ESG ranking are still held by mining companies, banks, oil and gas companies, electric power and chemical companies.
The assessment was carried out according to the updated methodology published in spring 2024. For the formation of the ranking, RAEX analysts studied only public data of companies, taking into account the specifics of their activities. Now, in order to be included in the list, companies need to disclose the required minimum of specific ESG-related data, rather than simply declaring their commitment to sustainable development principles.
The new version of the ESG ranking uses the updated methodology to present companies, assessed as of 31 October 2024. On 2 December, RAEX will publish updates on November results, and by the end of 2024, a final ESG ranking of companies for the 2023 reporting period will be prepared.
