Representative of RAEX-Europe, Vladimir Gorchakov, participated in the annual XVI Russian Bond Congress, which took place in Saint-Petersburg 7-8th of December 2018.
Vladimir presented the Agency's experience in assessing ESG risks of the Russian corporate sector, preparation of Green Bond second opinion and general overview of green finance in the EU, during the section "Investments in infrastructure: green bonds, concession bonds".
Green finance segment of the world financial market is rapidly growing in all developed countries, especially in the European Union. This creates a demand on the comprehensive and professional assessment of the environmental and financial risks of issuers and other market players. However, it is very hard to have experts covering both types of risks at the same time. In addition, so far there is no much companies from emerging markets, in particular from Russia, that can comply with the European standards of green finance. Our Agency is among the first CRAs - signatories of the ESG in Credit Rating Statement maintained by the UNPRI. The Agency recognizes that environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors can affect borrowers’ cash flows and the likelihood that they will default on their debt obligations. We are planning to cover the green finance segment of CIS region with our expertize and services within the next years, based on our experience and competence, - explained Vladimir Gorchakov.
